Located East of La Jolla and West of  I-805 is University City.  Also known as UTC, University City derives its' name from the University of California San Diego campus west of the neighborhood.

UTC is a master-planned community of approximately 2,500 acres originally envisioned in 1959 as an adjunct residential community for UCSD.  Today, UTC offers a mix of residential housing, commercial retail including the 1 million square foot Westfield UTC shopping mall, and office parks.
