Located South of La Mesa and West of Rancho San Diego is Spring Valley.  Spring Valley is named for a natural spring that is located there and is home to the Bancroft House, the oldest adobe structure in East San Diego County.  Through the early part of the 20th century the area around the Bancroft House was used as olive groves with development beginning in the middle of the century.
