Located north of Del Mar and south of the San Elijo lagoon is Solana Beach.  Development of Solana Beach begain in earnest in 1918 with the completion of the Lake Hodges Dam.  This preceded the creation of the Santa Fe Irrigation District and the first building boom in Solana Beach beginning in 1920.
