Named for the developer Carlos Tavares, San Carlos is located East of Del Cerro and West of El Cajon.  A residential community developed throughout the 1960s and 1970s, San Carlos is home to San Diego's highest point -- Cowles Mountain.   Cowles is part of Mission Trails Regional Park which is the largest urban park in the United States.
