Located west of Ramona and east of Rancho Bernardo is Poway.  The land that is now Poway was once used as grazing lands for the San Diego Mission de Acala.  Like other sub-markets in the Greater San Diego area, Poway's initial restraint on development was the availability of water.  In 1954 the Poway Municipal Water District was established providing water to the area from Colorado River and development ensued.
