Located north of Air Station Miramar and south of the Los Peñasquitos Canyon is Mira Mesa.  An inspiration for Hollywood, Mira Mesa was the site of the Navy's Top Gun pilot school for many years.  A housing boom in the area began in 1969 causing the rapid expansion of housing in Mira Mesa.
